Obituary

Born in Aberdeen South Dakota to Henry and Helen Trei. The youngest of five children she and her four older brothers lived in North Dakota until 1941. When she was 12 years old Mary moved to San Diego. She lived in Linda Vista until she returned to North Dakota to attend the Normal and Industrial College in Elendale. It is there that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Bernard Pratschner, a World War Two veteran completing college on the G.I. bill. They were married in June of 1949. The couple welcomed their first child, Daniel, in February of 1950. He would be the first of nine children.

In 1963 Bernard, Mary and six children moved from Forbes, North Dakota to Vista, CA where she would spend the next 54 years. Mary was busy with a house full of children. A woman with seemingly endless energy and patience, she always has time to help with homework, fix a child a snack or provide motherly first aid to one of her nine children, or just as often for one of their friends.

An active supporter of Vista High School marching band for years she was the "Band Mom." Unselfishly giving her time and talent to help her band kids she was always there to fix a uniform, hand out a spare belt, pair of socks or hold someones purse or wallet while they marched. She was the Mom away from home for dozens of Vista band members.

For Mary family came first and nothing would brighten her spirits like a child. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary passed away quietly in her home of 49 years surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded by her four brothers, Martin, Jack, Charles and Gene and also Bernard, her husband of 57 years. She is survived by her nine children; Dan, Paulette, James, MaryBeth, Kathy, Steven, David, Brian, Michael twenty one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

An amazing woman that touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all.
